Control and Command …What They Have in Common
They can both make your day-to-day work life much easier! Anyone who knows me knows I am a bit of a control freak about a “few” things, but I'm not talking about that kind of control! I'm talking about using keyboard shortcuts— CONTROL on a PC and COMMAND on a Mac. Try all of the shortcuts 👇,and let me know which is your favorite.
Keyboard Shortcuts For the Win
Find
You have a contract open, and you need to check the closing date, or you have a prelim title report up, and you want to find the easements, or you are browsing a webpage and need to search a specific topic….use the shortcuts 👇.
By hitting Ctrl + F (PC) or Command ⌘ + F (Mac) you can —
Find Text in a Document: It opens a search bar in web browsers, word processors, PDFs, and other text-based applications, allowing you to search for specific words or phrases within the document.
Navigate Quickly: By finding specific text, you can quickly jump to different parts of a document or webpage without scrolling manually.
Replace Text: In some applications (like Microsoft Word), using "Ctrl + F" can also open a find and replace dialog, allowing you to replace one word or phrase with another throughout the document.
Undo
Oh my goodness…..you just copied and pasted the wrong language into an addendum, or you changed your mind, and what you previously wrote was better than what you just wrote. Worse, what if you accidentally deleted the paragraph of text that took you 30 minutes to write? No problem!
Use Ctrl + Z (PC) or Command ⌘ + Z (Mac) to —
Undo the Last Action: It reverses the most recent action or command you performed. You can undo typing, deletions, moves, and more.
Multiple Undo: You can often press "Ctrl + Z" repeatedly to undo multiple previous actions, moving backward through your action history step-by-step.
Quickly Correct Errors: This is a quick way to correct mistakes, such as accidental deletions, incorrect data entries, or other unintended actions.
Copy + Paste
On both PCs and Macs, Ctrl + C (PC) and Command ⌘+ C (Mac) serve the same primary function —
Copy Selected Text or Items: They copy the currently selected text, image, file, or other item to the clipboard. This allows you to paste it elsewhere using Ctrl + V on a PC or Command ⌘+ V on a Mac.
Duplicate Content: This shortcut is also used to quickly duplicate content without altering the original, facilitating easier data manipulation and transfer across different applications or documents.
I'm a big believer that the better we know our “tools” the better we can do our jobs!
